Jose Cepeda, the Owner, and instructor of NW Diamond Sports, embodies a lifelong dedication to baseball, softball instruction, and mentorship. Originating from Fajardo, Puerto Rico, Jose's journey in baseball has been characterized by an enduring passion for the game.


Professional Experience and Expertise
With over 45,240 hours of committed mentorship since 1995, Jose brings a wealth of practical on-field experience. His coaching involvement in more than 1,320 games spans private lessons, camps, and clinics, fostering comprehensive player development.

 

Teaching and Coaching Roles 

Jose's commitment to education extends beyond the baseball field. He served as a Special Education Assistant Teacher at French Prairie Middle School in Woodburn, OR, demonstrating a dedication to supporting students with diverse needs and backgrounds. Furthermore, Jose's coaching journey includes a year-long tenure at Wilsonville High School and a valuable season contributing his expertise to Chemeketa Community College. In these roles, he mentored athletes, fostering skill development and instilling a passion for the game beyond the diamond.

Athletic Background and Achievements

Jose's career highlights underscore his remarkable achievements in baseball. From winning a hitting title with an impressive .348 average in the Gulf Coast League (Kansas City Royals) to achieving a notable 32-game hitting streak in the Midwest League, his dedication and skill have been evident at every step. Jose's time with the Atlanta Braves saw an unprecedented record of 86 at-bats without a strikeout in the Southern League and participation in three All-Star Games.

 

Athletic Mentoring and Experience

Beyond his coaching role, Jose has had the privilege of learning from esteemed coaches like Derril Evans, Hank Aaron, George Brett, Kevin Long, and other influential figures. He's played alongside or against iconic athletes, including Roberto Alomar, Ivan Rodriguez, Carlos Beltran, Howard Johnson, John Smoltz, Alex Cora, and others, shaping his coaching philosophies.

Mentorship of Top Players

Jose considers himself incredibly fortunate to have had the opportunity to mentor and coach some of the finest talents emerging from the Northwest. Notable players like Michael Conforto, Brandon Drury, Jed Lowrie, Darwin Barney, Cooper Hummel, Kenyon Yovan, Trace Loher, Noble Myers, and more have crossed paths with Jose, benefiting from his guidance. This interaction has been a mutually rewarding experience, contributing significantly to their growth and success.

Educational Journey and Commitment

His educational journey included stints at Linn Benton Community College and Western Oregon University. Further insights into player evaluation and talent identification were gained at the Atlanta Braves Scouting School.

Jose Cepeda, a resident of Keizer, Oregon, enriches his professional pursuits with a deep cultural perspective while actively engaging in the local community. Celebrating 26+ years of marriage with Gina Cepeda, we proudly cherish our family, including our two children, Alexa and Anthony Cepeda.
